Mark & Ciara opted for a classic, elegant day
Ciara, from Tipperary, and Mark, from Dublin, met while studying in Dublin, and over their 12 years as a couple — some of which were spent living in different countries — they’ve really grown up together. Mark proposed in 2014 while Ciara was on an annual trip to Powerscourt Hotel with her sister and mum. As the three women finished dinner, Ciara was asked to accompany a staff member upstairs — little did she know she would arrive to a room filled with candles and Mark waiting on one knee. The pair celebrated with Ciara’s mum and sister, before both families joined them the following night.
Ciara and Mark celebrated their wedding with a Catholic ceremony led by Ciara’s cousin, Fr Tomás O’Connell, in Star of the Sea Church, Ballycotton, Co Cork. As her father has passed away, Ciara had a framed photo of them together placed on the altar, and her eldest brother walked her down the aisle. Afterwards the couple held their reception at the stunning Castlemartyr Resort, where all their needs were looked after in the elegant venue.
The bride found her dream dress in Caroline Castigliano’s Knightsbridge atelier in London, while her bridesmaids wore Sylvia dresses from Ghost, and the groom wore Hugo Boss.
Mark and Ciara stayed on for a few days in Castlemartyr to kick back after their big day, followed by several nights in The Europe Hotel, Killarney. Several months later, the pair spent 11 nights on the Caribbean island of St Lucia enjoying the honeymoon of a lifetime. Words by Dee Finnerty.
