Pres­i­dent Hig­gins will launch the 40th Clifden Arts Fes­ti­val — the long­est-run­ning com­mu­nity arts fes­ti­val in Ire­land — on Wed­nes­day. Big draws in­clude per­for­mances by Amer­i­can su­per­group Cher­ish the Ladies, Stock­ton’s Wing and James Gal­way, and read­ings by po­ets Paul Dur­can, Michael Lon­g­ley and Theo Dor­gan. Kevin McAleer takes to the stage for late-night com­edy and Mikel Murfi per­forms I Hear You and Re­joice, an ac­count of an un­likely mar­riage.
