Louise & Gavin’s Scottish romance
Louise, from Co Dublin, met Gavin, from Fife in Scotland, through mutual friends more than six years ago while she was working in Scotland. When Louise had to return to Dublin after her year in Scotland came to an end, the pair parted ways just months after they’d become an item. But they continued their long-distance romance for two years, before Louise made the big move to Scotland to be with Gavin.
Not long after, Gavin decided to pop the question, surprising Louise on her 27th birthday. Knowing she was getting a gift of a Pandora charm, Louise didn’t suspect Gavin would be proposing with his great-grandmother’s ring — which he’d hidden in the box instead.
The couple decided to get married in Ireland at Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort, Co Wicklow, where they held a Spiritualist ceremony. The couple’s mothers took part in the Celtic handfasting ceremony while their fathers poured whisky for a Quaich ceremony — a Scottish tradition of drinking from a two-handled cup. Guests were also treated to traditional bagpipes played by Pat Cafferkey, setting the mood for this Scottish day.
Louise found her stunning lace gown in Ciara Bridal in the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre, Dublin, while her bridesmaids wore embellished blush-toned dresses from Debenhams. The groom wore a traditional Scottish kilt from his hometown.
Louise and Gavin embark on their dream honeymoon this month, travelling to Dubai for three days before they relax in Mauritius for a further 10 days. Words by Dee Finnerty. Photography by visit If you would like your wedding featured here, email
