IRISH INDEPENDENT I have an embarrassingly large number of selfhelp books on my book shelves. Some have been read in part, some not even opened, others have been so well read that the pages are starting to come away.
That is the case with The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, a book which has become my comfort blanket when my thoughts are spinning. The simple philosophy of the text is that living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment.
Last night, unable to sleep I opened it at random and found this line: “Surrender to what 28 October 2017 is. Say ‘yes’ to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”
Just reading it allowed me to let out a long sigh. I spend so much time trying to control life and second guess everything, worrying about what might be — but actually all we ever have is this present moment. Right now. Say yes to that and accept it exactly as it is and after that things just seem to flow... Or at very least it’s easier to get back to sleep.
