Autumn has arrived and we’re busy reclaiming our black tights and swaddling ourselves in chunky cardigans. As we brace ourselves for the cold, dark months ahead — not to mention an entire season of glittering party looks — it seems a strange time to be thinking about what we’ll be wearing next spring. Such is the way that the fashion calendar works, however, and for the past month the eyes of the industry have been on the fashion weeks in the major style capitals.

Every season, one or two strong beauty looks emerge from the catwalk shows, but at the recent fashion week shows the trends for Spring/Summer 2019 have, on the whole, been quite muted. Rather than the more defined, heavy make-up looks of the past few seasons, nude skin, rosy neutral lips, golds and soft coppers on eyes featured.

For hair, again there was quite a lot of short hair and long bobs on the catwalk — which is always refreshing to see after years of hair extension obsession — and quite ‘ undone’ textures.

Today, I’ve selected five of the strongest make-up looks ( right), along with three stand-out hair styles ( below), from the fashion week shows to guide you through the season ahead. I’ve given each one a ‘ ramp to reality’ difficulty rating — how easy it is to recreate each of the styles yourself at home.

If you can’t wait until spring to re-boot your makeup look, however, pay a visit to Brown Thomas which is running its
