Piano (Deutsche Grammophon)

Irish Independent - Weekend Review - - FRONT PAGE -

The co-writer (with Bjorn Ulvaeus) of so many of those celebrated Abba songs is 70 now and a fabulously wealthy man thanks not just to the band he formed, but such stupendously popular musicals as Mamma Mia! There are still some who dismiss his work — but never fellow musicians — and this debut album for one of classical music’s most prestigious labels offers a reminder of why his work endures. Everything centres on the Stockholmer’s grand piano and the 21 tracks take in songs from Abba, musicals (including Chess) and comparatively little known solo work. Much of it is exquisite, including ‘Thank You For the Music’.
