Theresa May: The Enigmatic Prime Minister

Irish Independent - Weekend Review - - FRONT PAGE - JOHN MEAGHER

Rosa Prince

Bite back, 400 pages, €15.40 Originally rushed out when Theresa May was first installed at 10 Downing Street, Prince’s biography has been comprehensively updated and captures what most agree has been a weak premiership.

The book majors on May’s determination to break the glass ceiling and to outmanoeuvre males colleagues with their eye on the top prize — and there’s plenty of detail of what has been a fraught tenure in a Britain facing up to the impact of Brexit.

There’s a sense of the young May, too, although many have noted that as she carefully guards her private life, biographers will struggle to uncover the sort of detail needed to really get to the heart of who she is — a problem Prince encounters, too.
