Big hit­ters lend sup­port for 2023 World Cup bid

U2 and Bob Geldof have joined forces with Brian O’Driscoll and Leo Varad­kar to try and bring the Rugby World Cup tour­na­ment to Ire­land.

The Ire­land 2023 Rugby World Cup bid pre­sen­ta­tion del­e­ga­tion, which will present in Lon­don on Septem­ber 25, has been un­veiled – in­clud­ing Sports Min­is­ter Shane Ross; chair­man of Ire­land 2023 over­sight board Dick Spring; Ir­ish women’s rugby cap­tain Ni­amh Briggs; and Kieran McLough­lin, world­wide president and CEO of The Ire­land Funds.

It will also fea­ture video from U2 and Bob Geldof’s ren­di­tion of WB Yeats’s poem ‘The Lake Isle of In­n­is­free’.
