HE COACHES AND SCORES!

-

A RECORD-BREAKER of our own, Robbie Keane, was back in the news with his Indian Super League side Atletico de Kolkata – or ATK as they are called.

The former Spurs and LA Galaxy striker joined the club back in November, but was named caretaker manager for their final game in the league stage of the season and picked himself to start. And the 37-year-old did not disappoint.

Not only did he manage the team, he bagged the 11th-minute goal that kept them off the bottom of the table – a beautiful, deft drop-volley with the outside of his right boot.

“Robbie Keane was Captain, Caretaker Coach and Hero of the Match,” tweeted the Superleague after he did the business yesterday.

Injuries have restricted Keane to only seven league starts, but it was his sixth goal and even though the video indicates that the crowd was pretty sparse, he still gave it the full 100pc with his goal celebrations, pulling out his trademark cartwheel.

Now, if he gets a taste for this management lark, how long before the Ireland job is on his radar?
