RTÉ should be ap­plauded

■ So, when we fi­nally have a bal­anced and factual de­bate on the Eighth Amend­ment, we have the Taoiseach, who re­fused to take part, claim­ing there was a lot of “point-scor­ing” on the pro­gramme.

Of course, it was a sur­prise to him as the No side has had very few op­por­tu­ni­ties to present its case as prac­ti­cally all jour­nal­ists are not just in favour of re­peal­ing the amend­ment, but many are ac­tively cam­paign­ing for it.

There­fore, the de­bate was a unique ex­pe­ri­ence of proper broad­cast­ing by our na­tional sta­tion and I say well done to all con­cerned.
