Nothing lasts forever, even the heat

-

■ I know the poor farmers are having it bad. It can’t be easy worrying about whether there will be enough water for the livestock or crops.

And it seems especially cruel when we think only a few months ago the land was water-logged and we battled f looding.

The children playing by the seashore are enjoying the hot spell. How seldom the clear blue skies come our way.

There is nothing like the weather to remind us that everything in moderation is wonderful.

But too much of any of it causes problems.

It also reminds us that we are not in control of everything.

The tech revolution has lulled us into foolishly expecting that “there is an app for that”.

In other words, everything is at our fingertips, and if it is not going our way it is because we are somehow at fault or “locked out” of the system.

The truth is that we are merely passing through, and larger forces are always at work.

The best we can hope for is to adapt and do the best we can. Most of the time if we accept our circumstances we find the strength and initiative to endure.

This too, good or bad, will also surely pass.
