Sad betrayal of Churchill’s vision

-

Many moons ago was made a movie with the title ‘Oh, Mr Porter!’ When a character asks to see a train timetable the response is: “You’re wasting your time.”

Jean-Claude, Michel, Donald and Leo, listen to what was said by actor Graham Moffatt, per above. You’re wasting your time.

I write as an Anglo-American. Brit-born, bred and educated, in my early 40s I emigrated to the US where, eventually, I was granted citizenship.

Despite the musings of Henry Ford, we’re told we learn by histor y, but in the case of Brexit, it would seem not, not as far as is concerned the EU negotiators.

When the Brits make a decision, that’s it, whatever the consequences, whatever the ramifications, they stick to it.

Think the Charge of the Light Brigade (a disastrous decision), the Battle of the Somme (a disastrous decision), World War II/Hitler’s invasion of Poland, Suez (a disastrous decision) and now...Brexit (the most disastrous decision of all) .

While I disagree totally with the decision concerning the EU, equally I understand the mindset.

The Brexiteers don’t give a monkey’s about any consequences of their action, and as for the Irish Border, they simply don’t care.

To them, the Irish Border question is akin to a f ly on a horse’s arse; just f lick it away.

A negotiated Brexit? Forget it. The likes of Gove, Davis, Johnson et al, they don’t care.

Leave in any scenario, come what May (pun intended).

All a betrayal of Churchill’s vision of some 70 years ago. Sad, so ver y, ver y sad. Michael Dryhurst Four Mile House, Co Roscommon
