All sports should be on the telly

■ We are currently enjoying great coverage of the World Cup by RTÉ and it appears to be very popular with the majority of the population.

However, we need to keep and improve television coverage of our minor sports – for example, athletics, rugby, hockey, rowing, swimming – as we need to encourage the development of these sports as they all contribute to success in international sports.

Might I suggest that in the intervening years the World Cup budget be allocated to the minor sports? The support of RTÉ in live television of these would encourage and maybe develop greater participation.
