Death of Irish Independen­t and racing journalist Noel Reid

FORMER Irish Independen­t journalist Noel Reid has passed away.

Mr Reid, who worked as a production journalist with the Irish Independen­t, was also an anchor for RTÉ’s racing coverage and horse racing was a huge passion of his.

He presented RTÉ’s flagship show ‘Saturday Sport’ and also worked on the Irish Independen­t sports desk before moving to news.

Mr Reid, from Dún Laoghaire, passed away in the care of his family and staff of St Vincent’s Hospital on Thursday.

A keen singer and gardener, Mr Reid is survived by his wife Marie, sons Alan, Paul and Robert and daughter Gillian as well as 11 grandchild­ren and his beloved sister Mary.

He is fondly remembered by his colleagues at Irish Independen­t and RTÉ.

A celebratio­n of Noel’s life will be held at the Killiney Castle Hotel, Dublin on tomorrow at noon.
