‘Alice’ has draw to capture Gold

- MICHAEL FORTUNE

IT IS 21 years since the Gold Cup was introduced to the Irish greyhound calendar and it has been firmly established as one of the true major events of the year.

This year’s event has lived up to the standard and a terrific final is anticipated at Shelbourne Park this evening.

The market suggests that the €20,000 prize will be battled out between Music Toour Ears, Droopys Alice and Garryvoe Noah, and they certainly have the credentials.

There is huge early pace in the line-up and the trap draw could be decisive.

The coveted red jacket will be worn by the John Linehantrained Droopys Alice and she is fancied to maintain her unbeaten record in the event.

Droopys Alice has led all the way in each of her outings and she can again head Garryvoe Noah and Music Toour Ears to the bend. From there she would take the world of beating.

Bakery Lane and Holycross Lad have plenty of early pace but are not well housed, while Jaytee Tornado is a noted finisher and he can make the frame.
