Pub landlord tax break is ‘unworkable’

Irish Sunday Mirror - - NEWS -

PLANS to offer pub landlords a tax break if they help customers home at the end of the night won’t solve the industry’s problem, a TD has warned.

Independent Michael Fitzmaurice said the Government’s proposal will fail to halt the crisis which is forcing rural pubs to close at a rapid rate.

He added: “Offering tax breaks to publicans to leave their customers home late at night is an attempt by the Government to take the heat off back bench TDS in the current debate about the drink driving legislation.

“It’s not workable in many cases, especially in rural Ireland.”
