Muppet will show respect for women

Irish Sunday Mirror - - NEWS -

A NEW muppet is joining the cast of Afghanistan’s version of Sesame Street, aiming at showing boys the importance of respect for women.

The introduction of Zeerak to the show follows last year’s move to bring in a little girl character, aimed at inspiring girls in the Muslim nation.

Zeerak, whose name means “Smart” in Afghanistan’s two official languages, is a four-yearold boy who enjoys studying and learning.

Massood Sanjer, head of TOLO TV, said: “In a country like Afghanistan, you have to do some lessons for the males to respect the females.”
