Chief is axed over killing by patrol officer

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

A POLICE chief has quit after one of her officers shot dead an unarmed woman from his patrol car.

Australian Justine Damond, 40, was killed by cop Mohamed Noor who had responded to her emergency call in the US city of Minneapolis.

The incident eight days ago sparked fury from Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who said it was “inexplicable”.

Chief Janee Harteau was forced out after the city’s mayor said she had lost the public’s confidence.

Harteau had previously tried to distance herself from the shooting saying it “shouldn’t have happened”.

Yoga tutor Ms Damond had heard noises and had dialled 911 herself. She was standing at the patrol car in pyjamas when shot.
