King George the 1st

GEORGE SAVILLE scored inside the first minute for the second game running as Millwall maintained their charge for the play-offs.

The Lions’ top scorer was quick of the mark in their 2-1 midweek win at Hull.

And 24-year-old Irishman Saville’s ninth goal of the season proved too much for Brentford.

Lee Gregory closed down Andreas Bjelland with a tackle which left the centrehalf grounded before heading the bouncing ball to Saville, who finishing calmly past Daniel Bentley.

Millwall are unbeaten in 11 Championship games now since New Year’s Day.

Boss Neil Harris said: “The best side won the game 1-0, the best side always wins the game – that’s the result. I thought Brentford were very good today and we rode our luck at times.

“Millwall going like a steam train really pleases me. Six points off the playoffs, with nine games to go.

“The players, and fans, have earned the right to dream.” Bees manager Dean Smith argued: “The better team got beat today.

“There are such small margins in football at times.

“I can’t question the lads’ performances, I thought we were very good.

”The only reason we didn’t win was because a player gets injured and a linesman’s flag.”
