23ft cliff fall woman flown to hos­pi­tal

A WOMAN was air­lifted to hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day morn­ing after she was found with se­ri­ous in­juries at the base of a 23ft cliff.

The alarm was raised at 2.30am when the lady in her early 20s was re­ported to have fallen on to the shore at Span­ish Point in Co Clare.

A com­plex ma­jor mul­ti­a­gency op­er­a­tion, that lasted three hours, was quickly mounted.

The Doolin unit of the Ir­ish Coast Guard along with the Shan­non-based search and res­cue he­li­copter were ini­tially tasked to the in­ci­dent.

Crews climbed down to the base of the cliff to reach the woman.

It’s be­lieved she suf­fered mul­ti­ple in­juries in­clud­ing frac­tures and a head trauma.
