World’s long­est flight ar­rives 19hrs after Sin­ga­pore take-off

THE world’s long­est com­mer­cial flight touched down in New York on Fri­day after al­most 19 hours in the air from Sin­ga­pore.

Sin­ga­pore Air­lines Flight SQ22 left Changi Air­port at 23.37 on Thurs­day and touched down at Ne­wark, which ser­vices the Big Ap­ple, at 05.39 the fol­low­ing day.

Be­fore its 15,000km in­au­gu­ral jour­ney, the air­line told pas­sen­gers the trip could be as short as 17 hours. In the event, it took al­most 19. Qan­tas launched a 17-hour, non-stop ser­vice from Perth to Lon­don ear­lier this year, while Qatar runs a 17.5-hour flight be­tween Auck­land and Doha. The Sin­ga­pore-to-new York route will ini­tially run three times a week, de­part­ing on Mon­days, Thurs­days and Satur­days.
