Herd about llama link to flu antibody?

-

US scientists are working on a new flu treatment – with the help of the humble llama.

The fuzzy animals are being used to produce an antibody therapy that has the potential to combat even pandemics.

The llama produces incredibly tiny antibodies, which are weapons of the immune system that bind to proteins on viruses.

Researcher Prof Ian Wilson said: “It’s very effective. There were 60 different viruses used in the challenge and only one wasn’t neutralised and that’s a virus that doesn’t infect humans.”
