Jenkins quits City

- BY ROB COLE

SWANSEA were plunged into further disarray last night when chairman Huw Jenkins quit as chairman.

Appointed in 2002, he oversaw a huge reversal in fortunes at a club that almost dropped out of the Football League in 2003, yet went on to enjoy seven seasons in the top flight.

But his decision to step down comes after criticism from fans in the wake of last season’s relegation, the sale of the club to US pair Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan and another disastrous transfer window.

“I feel I have been left with little or no option to leave my position,” said Jenkins in a statement.

“Gradually, over the last few seasons, my role as chairman has been eroded.

“The atmosphere saddens me very much.

“I find it very difficult to fight on in a club I love, but can no longer control.”
