RESPECT OUR CITY RECORD

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

PEP GUARDIOLA will today look to rebuild Manchester City’s season – with a demand for some respect for what he has achieved at the Etihad.

Until City surrendered the Premier League with a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Thursday night, Guardiola’s side had been the only English club to lift a domestic trophy for 769 days.

In that time, the Blues defended the title, lifted the League Cup for a third successive season, retained the Community Shield and clinched the FA Cup with a record score.

And as they travel to St James’ Park for a FA Cup quarter-final against Newcastle, the City boss has set his sights on another trip to Wembley and the club’s first Champions League.

Guardiola insists his men deserve to be hailed as one of the finest club sides England has ever seen.

Blues boss Guardiola said: “A team like us, who have won eight titles, have passion for every single game in every single competition.

“And no one other club in this country can say that. It is so difficult what we have done, in the most difficult league in the world.

“You are not going to win all the time – and we must congratulate Liverpool for winning the title.

“But we still have a big challenge. We won the Carabao Cup and the Community Shield and we still have the FA Cup and Champions League.

“We must only think about Newcastle because we still have an incredible target to reach this season.”
