Dumping nightmare at site

Mid Louth Independent - - NEWS - Fiona MAGENNIS

THE lives of residents living close to Bayview House (right) on the Dublin Road are being made hell because of dumping, vermin and anti-social behaviour in the area.

The issue was raised by Councillor Richie Culhane who said the situation at the site was unbearable for those living in the area.

He said dumping was happening on a weekly basis at the site and the area was overrun with vermin and rats as well as a substantial amount of anti-social behaviour.

‘I know the council has taken issue with the owner,’ he said. ‘Many of the residents, their lives are being made hell by what is going on there.’

‘The dumping is now a weekly event and it is being left up to the residents to clean up this rubbish,’ he said. ‘My firm belief is that there should be covert cameras put in there to catch whoever is doing this. This is happening up to three or four times a week.’

He said there is also a lot of anti-social behaviour going on at the house with those involved climbing over the wall and easily gaining access to the property.

He said the owner of a property which is in close proximity to the site is terrified that something will happen. ‘There has been attempts to set fire to it in the past,’ he said. ‘What is the status on the notice served on the owner? Are you going to take him to court? The situation for residents is intolerable. The owner has no intention of taking any action to secure the site.’

Senior Engineer Pat Finn said that what he could say in relation to enforcement was that if there was any evidence of dumping found the council will take legal action.
