Ea­monn’s long walk from Aus­tria to County Ar­magh

PASS­ING through Drogheda and Ardee this week was a man who em­barked on ‘’The Long Walk Home.’’

That was the ti­tle of Ea­monn Don­nelly’s trek from Aus­tria to his na­tive Co Ar­magh.

The 1,500-mile walk was un­der­taken by Ea­monn in sup­port of Alzheimer suf­fer­ers, his own mother hav­ing passed away af­ter a two-year ill­ness.

He com­pleted the 86day walk to his home vil­lage of Keady, Co Ar­magh over the week­end from his adopted Aus­trian home in Graz, where he is a teacher of English.

Ea­monn ex­pects to have about €10,000 to show from his fund-rais­ing marathon which be­gan in the month of June.

He plans to di­vide the money be­tween Alzheimer or­gan­i­sa­tions in Ire­land, north and south, as well as in Aus­tria.

‘’I have felt a spe­cial affin­ity with peo­ple work­ing to help Alzheimer suf­fer­ers ever since my mother passed away, ‘’ said Ea­monn (50). ‘’They do fan­tas­tic work for suf­fer­ers and their fam­i­lies and I wanted to make my own con­tri­bu­tion.’
