Join Boyne AC for their memo­rial 4 Mile Road Race

THE Con­nor / Mal­lon memo­rial 4 mile road race takes place on Sun­day Septem­ber 17th, start­ing at the Donore Road In­dus­trial Es­tate at 12 mid­day. The event has been or­gan­ised by lo­cal ath­let­ics club Boyne A.C. in mem­ory of the late Harry Mal­lon who passed away in Novem­ber 2015, and of the late Wil­lie Con­nor who passed away in Jan­uary 2017.

Wil­lie was a founder mem­ber of Boyne A.C., and a com­mit­tee mem­ber for many years. He helped out reg­u­larly with coach­ing over the years and was al­ways fly­ing the flag for Boyne A.C.

Harry had been an in­te­gral mem­ber of Boyne A.C. in the years pre­ced­ing his death, and had served as honorary pres­i­dent, a role truly be­fit­ting of such a great per­son. Al­ways there with a friendly smile and words of en­cour­age­ment to ev­ery ath­lete, be they first or last, Har­rys pres­ence was al­ways as­sured at any Boyne A.C. event.

To hon­our these 2 great men, Boyne A.C. have de­cided to once again host their 4 mile road race, which will start on the Donore Road In­dus­trial Es­tate at 12 mid­day sharp. The route will take the ath­letes along the In­dus­trial es­tate and tak­ing a left at the round­about at FloGas, con­tin­u­ing along Matthews Lane be­fore tak­ing an­other left onto the Platin Road, pass­ing Boyne Val­ley foods, the route takes an­other left just af­ter the bridge head­ing back to­wards the start line, an­other full loop of the route will com­plete the 4 mile dis­tance.

The race is open to any­one over the age of 18 and to all lev­els of abil­ity, run­ners, jog­gers, walk­ers are all wel­come. There is chip tim­ing and the route is AAI ap­proved, and with just a slight in­cline at Matthews lane, the route is very flat – en­sur­ing fast times for those keen to test them­selves. There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Male and Fe­male, team tro­phies and the usual cat­e­gory prizes. Tech­ni­cal T-Shirts are avail­able for the first 300 en­trants and there will be re­fresh­ments pro­vided fol­low­ing the race. Boyne A.C. are a well-es­tab­lished ath­let­ics club that has been in ex­is­tence for over 35 years. Cater­ing for ju­ve­niles from age 7 up to adults of all abil­i­ties, there is some­thing for every­one in the club. Their suc­cesses over re­cent years at both Na­tional and In­ter­na­tional level have been well pub­li­cised and there are many up and com­ing ris­ing stars amongst the 300plus strong mem­ber­ship. With fully qual­i­fied coaches across many track and field and dis­tance run­ning dis­ci­plines, the club is con­tin­u­ing to ex­cel, and with their new adults Fit for Life group grow­ing in num­bers, the club is surely set for yet many more suc­cess­ful years to come.
