Bad news for Cher­ry­brook as roads to re­main in dan­ger­ous state

THE RES­I­DENTS of Cher­ry­brook in Ardee should not be aban­doned, a lo­cal coun­cil­lor has said.

It comes af­ter Louth County Coun­cil said they can’t carry out re­pairs to pot­holes in the es­tate as it’s not taken in charge.

‘The con­cern I have is that these peo­ple pay the Prop­erty Tax like every­one else, but can’t get their roads re­paired,’ Cllr Dolores Minogue stated.

She has re­ceived a num­ber of com­plaints from those liv­ing there, just ask­ing for the holes to be filled in.

How­ever, the coun­cil main­tain that Cher­ry­brook re­mains a private es­tate and is not their re­spon­si­bil­ity.

‘The works are needed now,’ the coun­cil­lor added.

‘They know a full re­pair would cost a lot of money and are pre­pared to wait for that. But the holes have been fixed up in re­cent years, but they are very bad at the mo­ment.’

How­ever, the coun­cil main­tain that Cher­ry­brook re­mains a private es­tate and is not their re­spon­si­bil­ity.

‘The es­tate is 40 years old and we know there’s no bond. The es­tate is go­ing through the mo­tions of be­ing taken over, but the works are needed now,’ she added.
