Leah’s Late Late disappointment
DROGHEDA singing sensation Leah Corcoran (right) was left ‘devastated’ after she qualified for the Irish final of the Karaoke World Championship, the winner due to be selected live on the Late Late Show last weekend.
But the slot was pulled late in the week after a major row erupted when two performers - including Leah - who qualified through the heats, were not included in the final line up.
‘I was devastated when I heard about it,’ she stated this week. ‘I was told I had qualified for the Late Late Show final and then told I wouldn’t be on it.’
The story hit the Joe Duffy Show last week and the likes of Mary Byrne even commented, stating that Leah was one of her favourites from the heats, held in the Red Cow and Morans in Dublin over the past month.
The Late Late Show released a statement to the Drogheda Independent before the slot was cancelled on Friday, stating ‘appearances on The Late Late Show are, as always, within the editorial control of the show’s production team. Following a review of clips filmed during the karaoke competitions, the singers chosen by the team to take part in Friday night’s show were made on the basis of their suitability for a live performance on The Late Late Show, quality of performance as well as choice of song. Neither age nor gender were factors in choosing the performers taking part.’
Leah says she’s still love the chance to perform on the show if it is re-staged.
The winner qualifies for the World Championships in Helsinki in November.
