Brothers in court over dole collection

Mid Louth Independent - - NEWS -

TWO brothers who ended up in court after one asked the other to collect his dole money, have had their case struck out.

Thomas Milne (21), 99 Moneymore, Drogheda, and Ben Milne (24), of the same address; were each charged with one count of theft at Yellowbatter Post Office on 25 January, 2016.

Evidence was given that Ben asked Thomas to collect his social welfare when he was away on holiday.

After hearing they had €200 to make good the loss, the judge said he wanted another €200 from each of them for charity, and remanded the defendants in custody for a time.

When the case was called later, he was told they had a further €200 between them, and the judge settled for that.

In striking out the charges, Judge Coughlan noted it was an expensive day out for the duo.

‘You are lucky men,’ he added.
