Time to light up the area around Ferdia and Cuchulainn

OVER the coming months the Louth County Council budget will be agreed and hopefully there might be a few quid set aside for a project that I think is well worth doing.

As you walk through Ardee on these dark nights, wouldn’t it be great to see the statue of Ferdia and Cuchulainn lit up.

As present, it’s in a dark corner at the rear of the Bridge Street car park, pretty desolate to be honest.

This area is crying out for a proper project.

Imagine lighting, above and below the statue, a planting scheme to supplement the work of the tidy towns group, a sign to tell the story of the famous battle at the ford.

This has all the hallmarks of a wonderful amenity and focal point for Ardee and the room is there to do it.

I know there has been talk of moving the statue further up the town but nothing has come of it.

So, let’s just transform the place it remains in.

And talking about lighting up places, Ardee Castle looks so gloomy at the moment.

What’s the chance of a spotlight being mounted on a building across the street to shine onto the castle and really brighten it up. There are issues over its ongoing closure, but it shouldn’t be ignored.
