THE Old Drogheda So­ci­ety John Boyle O’Reilly School 2017 in as­so­ci­a­tion with Dun­dalk In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy present ‘Re­cent Ar­chae­o­log­i­cal Re­search in the Boyne Val­ley’. This will take place in Mill­mount, Drogheda, on Satur­day 2nd De­cem­ber. Reg­is­tra­tion 9.30am - 4 pm Tick­ets €20 .

This con­fer­ence is the fourth in the se­ries the first of which took place in 2010 as part of the INSTAR funded Boyne Val­ley Land­scapes Project. Al­though this project has now ceased, the value of hav­ing such an event on a semi-reg­u­lar ba­sis was recog­nised. The pa­pers rep­re­sent a se­lec­tion of ar­chae­o­log­i­cal projects from the aca­demic re­search, com­mer­cial and com­mu­nity sec­tors and in­clude tra­di­tional sur­vey, geo­phys­i­cal sur­vey and ex­ca­va­tion and are the most re­cent in­ves­ti­ga­tions of the rich her­itage of this im­por­tant area.

The Old Drogheda So­ci­ety Pres­i­dent’s Din­ner will take place on Sun­day De­cem­ber 10th in the Boyne Val­ley Ho­tel.The guest speaker will be Ro­nan Gorm­ley, Pro­fes­sor in the UCD School of Agri­cul­ture and Food Science, a na­tive of the Chord Road , his fa­ther was head­mas­ter in the Drogheda Tech­ni­cal School in King Street. Ro­nan is a keen an­gler and he re­cently pub­lished a book on his ex­pe­ri­ences fish­ing in lo­cal wa­ters. Full de­tails of the din­ner will be cir­cu­lated shortly.

A lec­ture “From Hovels to Homes - Public Hous­ing in Drogheda” by Peter Con­nell will take place in the Gov­er­nors House, Mill­mount on Wed­nes­day De­cem­ber 13th at 8pm.
