Rossiter goal sends Forth into last eight

FORTH Celtic caused the upset of the day in the Wexford Volkswagen Cup fourth round on Sunday by overcoming Premier Division side Courtown Hibs.

The Division 1 side eked out a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Darragh Rossiter after 20 minutes.

Hibs pressed hard for an equaliser in the second-half but Celtic goalkeeper Noel Simpson pulled off some fantastic saves to keep them at bay.

Holders North End United safely negotiated a tricky hurdle in Castlebrid­ge, seeing off Division 1 high-flyers Bridge Rovers 2-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Shane Dempsey fired the town side in front from a free-kick, and Paul Murphy doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after Adam Beary had been fouled.

Daniel Murphy grabbed a consolatio­n goal for the hosts deep into injury time.

Gorey Celtic won the all-Premier Division tie against Kilmore United, overcoming last year’s beaten finalists 4-2 with goals from Thomas Cloke, Paul Brennan and Craig Travers (two), with Aaron Kielthy and Alan Colgate replying for Kilmore.

Mark Sinnott, John Staples and Richie Walsh got on the scoresheet for Division 1 leaders Corach Ramblers as they saw off the challenge of St. Joseph’s, while Curracloe United won 4-0 away to Killenagh with goals from Tony Smith, Brian O’Connor, Robbie Staples and Graham Staples.
