How to prevent unrinary tract infections

- WITH CLAIR WHITTY

URINARY tract infection will either affect the bladder, the kidneys, or both. Lower back pain is a common sign of a kidney infection. It can be extremely painful and you may also have a fever. A bladder infection can lead to kidney infection if not treated.

A bladder infection (cystitis) can be very painful, with an urgent and frequent need to go to the loo, you may experience a painful stinging or burning sensation at the end of peeing. The urine may be cloudy and you can have pain in the groin. Some people won’t drink water at this point as they don’t want to go to the toilet too often on account of the discomfort caused when peeing, but this only makes matters worse.

Concentrated urine is extremely irritating to the bladder. Aim to drink one and a half litres of water per day. Foods to avoid include tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, red meat, and sugar because they affect pH balance. Salty and spicy foods can irritate the bladder.

Poor immune function makes you prone to infections. Frequent use of antibiotics will, unfortunately, weaken your immune system. They also reduce the level of the good bacteria in the gut, meaning that you can have recurring, frequent infections. Good bacteria are a crucial part of building the immune system. A good quality probiotic supplement will help you do this. Optibac For women is a probiotic that can be taken alongside an antibiotic to support immunity and replenish good bacteria.

A.Vogel Cranberry Complex is a combination remedy that can help prevent recurring urinary tract infection. It normalises the pH of the urine. It’s anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, and antifungal. Cranberries are a natural source of vitamin C, and D-mannose which can help prevent the bad bacteria that causes infection from sticking to the wall of the bladder. It also contains horseradish which is a natural antibiotic and diuretic rich in vitamin C. This remedy is worth trying if you suffer from recurring infection. And can be taken alongside Optibac For women for optimum benefits.

A.Vogel Golden Rod tea is one of the best teas that you can drink to support the urinary tract.
