THIS SATURDAY some of the country’s strongest women will be converging at Pearse Park in New Ross for the official Republic of Ireland’s Strongest Woman 2017 competition.

Taking place as part of this year’s Irish America Festival, the women, from across Ireland, will be competing for the Trish Porter Memorial Trophy, displaying awesome strength.

Organiser strongman Nicky Whelan said: ‘Eighteen woman will battle it out over six gruelling events. There are women coming from all corners of the Republic and are many local ladies throwing their hats into the mix too.’

The ladies will have to lift steel logs, giant granite stones and deadlift weights heavier than a large man for repetitions.

‘All aspects of strength, fitness and stamina will be tested to find our overall champion. This event promises to be an awesome day of entertainment for the family,’ Nicky said, adding that strongman champions will be present on the day.
