Lisa is on top of the world in ACCA exam
A STUDENT from Gorey has come first in the world in her accountancy exams. Lisa Cosgrave earned first place in the world in the Paper P7 exam of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).
Lisa was competing against 8,778 other students, and sat the exam as a distance-learning student of Griffith College
Dublin.
‘Since winning the award,
I’ve been allocated a lot more audit work than I had beforehand so they know I’m able to apply it by doing the ACCA exam,’ said a delighted Lisa.
The Association of Certified Chartered Accountants is the world’s largest professional accountancy body with over 500,000 members in 170 countries, and is recognised by employers worldwide.
Commenting on Lisa’s achievements, Ann Donegan, head of the school of professional accountancy at Griffith
College, said that their focus is helping students achieve the best possible results. ‘Employers look very favourably on prizewinners and Lisa’s achievement at such a young age will no doubt open many doors for her,’ she said.
Suzanne Burdis, lecturer at Griffith College said the professional accountancy exams are extremely difficult and the pass rates are very low. ‘Anybody, who passes a professional accountancy exam has done exceptional hard work and made a huge commitment,’ she commented. ‘ With P7, the pass rate is currently about 32 per cent, so anybody who passes that exam is in a very small minority.’
‘Getting 50 percent in those papers is a massive undertaking for any student,’ she added. ‘Lisa got 79 percent which you might expect not to be first in the world but that’s how difficult the paper is.’
