Delaney and stars dazzle at Rosbercon
THERE was great excitement in Rosbercon last week when John Delaney and a host of FAI stars paid the club a visit.
Declan Walsh of Rosbercon FC said that the club was taking part in the FAI Summer Festival and as a result were told they were in line to receive a visit from Mr Delaney.
‘We had a great night’ said Declan.
‘ The FAI gave us €1,000 for the club and they gave us a number of tickets for the Ireland v Moldova World Cup qualifier in the Aviva as well as a plaque. It was basically a meet and greet as well as the handing over of the tickets, money and plaque.
‘In addition to John Delaney international stars Keith Andrews and Stephen Hunt were there as well as Tony Fitzpatrick, president of the FAI. There were also a number of members of the women’s international team as well as the Under 16 girls’ coach.
‘It was a great boost to the club and afterwards we had a sports quiz in the Parish Pump to raise some money funds for the club.’
Declan said that the club which was only established in 2008 has built a clubhouse and made it watertight. However there is no electricity or water, nor are the walls plastered or painted. ‘It’s basically just a shell at the moment’, said Declan.
‘ The money we received will be used to help sort some of those things out.;
Declan said that former club member, Micky Curran, who died in May was very much to the forefront on people’s thoughts on the night. ‘He did untold work for us with the club and the clubhouse’, said Declan.
