LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Hard luck to our women’s team on a heart breaking defeat to St Martin’s in the championship semi-final on Tuesday night last. The girls traveled to Piercestown well prepared for the game at hand, a game that was due to start at 7 p.m. but didn’t thrown in till 7.30 p.m. due to no referee on show.

The Clongeen girls played their hearts out for the full 60 minutes including a grueling 17 minutes of injury time. Clongeen dominated the entire game and looked very much in control. They held possession well and worked tirelessly from defense to attack. Clongeen should have put them away but chances went a begging seeing a number of vital scoring chances go wide.

Clongeen had a rare laps in concentration and in injury time the Martins girls made a quick break and scored a goal and a point to take the game from Clongeen’s grasp by a mere two points. It was a disappointing result that the Clongeen girls will see as the one that got away. The final score was St Martin’s 1-7 v 1-5 for Clongeen.

UNDER-12 GIRLS’ FOOTBALL

Hard luck to our under-12 girls’ football team losing out to Baile Dubh Tire in their county semi-final last Wednesday night. Our under-12s had an amazing year winning all five games in their group. A very talented bunch of girls with great prospect. The girls played their hearts out losing by only five points. The final socre in this one was Clongeen 3-05 v 5-04 for Baile Dubh Tire. The scorers were: Kaelah Farrell 1-1, Ellieanna O’Grady 1-0 and Sarah Bennett 1-04.

COISTE NA NÓG

Our minors hurlers together with Fethard were beaten by Ballygarret in their last championship group match. Unfortunately that left us fifth on the table but all is not lost. We now qualify for a shield final. However, our Moguegeen Gaels minor footballers will play in the championship quarter final in Clongeen this Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. against St Joseph’s. All support would be appreciated.

Well done to Moguegeen Gaels (Clongeen/Fethard) underhurlers who played a great game against Geraldine O’Hanrahans on Thursday evening. The result was Moguegeen Gaels 5-13 to Gereldine O’Hanrahans’ 4-7.

Well done to our under-14 hurlers who won their county quarter-final against Rathgarogueon a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-1. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, we struggled to get scores and needed points from a Ryan O’Grady, Cathal Murphy and Pat Finn to keep us in the game. We took control however in the second half, keeping our guests scoreless, though it was mid-way through the half before we took the lead via a Ryan O’Grady goal. We now face Monageer-Boolavogue in the semi-final in two weeks time. The team was: Jack Rossiter, Fionn Mullally, Seán Whelan (G), Thomás Coleman, John Whelan, Michael Dundon (0-1), Pat Finn (0-1), Shane Culleton, Cathal Murphy (0-2), Cormac Kiely, Adam Whelan, Luke Murphy, Martin Doyle, Ryan O’Grady (1-6), Eoghan Twomey, Darragh Donnelly, Michael Mulligan, Paul Murphy, Bryan Hopkins, Eamonn Bennett and Keith Kelly.

Hard luck to our under-12 footballers who lost their quarter-final to a superior Duffry Rovers team. The under-12 hurlers now look forward to their quarter-final this Friday against St Pat’s in Clongeen where all your support would be greatly appreciated. Best of luck to all this week.

Clongeen’s under-10s had a great day participating in the Football Play and Stay blitz in Wexford park last Sunday. They won both games playing Clonard and St Pat’s in two highly entertaining football matches. It was a great experience for the children getting the use of the dressing rooms, walking through the tunnel and raising the cups after the matches. Thanks to Wexford GAA for organising this event.

Our panel of players included: Jamie Breen, Conor Burke, Cathal Curtis, Josh Donnelly, Seán Eustace, Leyon Purcell, Martin Wall, Laura McCarthy-Bennett, Sarah-Kate Hopkins, William Bennett, Séamie Whelan, Dylan Bennett, Kaleb Blake, Conor Kilkenny, Colin Murphy, Luke Murphy, Seán Óg Murphy, Jack Quigley and Killian Whelan.

GAA ACTION

Well done to Gusserane’s footballers who had a very successful weekend in their championship matches. The seniors defeated Fethard to keep alive their hopes of progressing in the competition.

The junior footballers maintained their excellent record with a good win over Marshalstown. The junior B footballers put in a spirited display against St James and both teams finished level at the final whistle. Best wishes to minor footballer, Donal Kinsella, who sustained a nasty injury in that game.

Second were Johnny Flynn, Peter Stafford and Mick Hanlon while third went to B Shannon, PJ Doyle and Brendan Colfer. The LGD was won by Declan Egan, Marie Doyle and Noel Redmond.
