Motorist was five times over limit

New Ross Standard - - NEWS -

THREE MEN were arrested for drunken driving in the New Ross area over the weekend, including one man who was five times over the legal limit, driving on the wrong wide of the road.

Gardaí had several traffic patrols in New Ross and surrounding areas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and arrested one man at an accident in Ballywilliam and another in New Ross.

A garda spokesperson: ‘In that incident the man was driving on the wrong side of the road. If only for the intervention of the gardaí who knows what would have happened. The patrols are out there and to have three in one weekend it a lot. We will continue to be out there and there are huge consequences for people with bans of between four and six years.’

There has been a marked increase in arrests for drunken driving over the past seven weeks and gardaí are adivsing people to get a taxi rather than take a risk and drive.
