Photographer Tommy (56) brought thrill of hunt to life

New Ross Standard - - NEWS -

TOMMY DONOHOE, late of Killegney, Clonroche, who passed away aged 56 on August 20, was a gentle giant who made a huge impression on everyone he met.

Tommy was born on April 19, 1961, at Raheenahone, Galbally, the son of Tommy and Eileen and brother to Billy, John, Michael and his sister Jane. He attended Galbally NS and Coláiste Abbain secondary school.

From a young age Tommy loved golf and whiled away many an hour playing with Cloughbawn Golf Society.

He worked at Ryan’s pub in Galbally for many years before getting a job at Sola Lenses.

A gentleman who got on well with everyone, Tommy loved photography and always looked forward to the hunt season when, through his lens, he brought the colour and thrill of the hunt to life in his wonderful photographs.

He would attend the Wexford and Bree hunts and loved taking action shots, capturing people in their element, never opting for the forced staged photo.

Standing 6ft 5in, he met Margaret Kinsella and the happy couple were married in Cloughbawn church in 1992, settling in Killegney.

Tommy worked for his brother at Mythen & Donohoe construction.

A lover of country music, Tommy played guitar at pubs around Wexford. He enjoyed trips to Cork to visit his good friend Ger.

Sadly Tommy fell ill in November and passed away after a nine month illness, which he fought with great courage.

A massive crowd packed into St. Clement’s Church, Cloughbawn, on Wednesday last for Tommy’s funeral Mass, with people travelling from throughout Ireland. The Wexford Hunt did a parade for him, standing as guard of honour.

Margaret said: ‘I’d say Tommy was smiling down. It was a fantastic sight. They were all togged out; all that was missing was the horses.’

She said Tommy was an absolutle gentleman who would help anyone he could.

He is remembered fondly and deeply missed by his wife, Margaret; brothers Billy, John and Michael; sister Jane; nephews; nieces, relatives and many friends.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

The late Tommy Donohoe
