Top seed Steve lives up to his billing

-

sTEVE Wood lived to his top seeding and favourite’s billing by leading this year’s Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally from start to finish.

He held off a challenge from Iam Barrett and Gary Kiernan for the whole weekend.

Kiernan was involved in his own battle for third spot with Stephen McCann.

This heated up on Sunday when McCann edged ahead of Kiernan only for Kiernan to take third back and hold on to it to the finish.

On the local end of things, Richard Moore, Liam Howlett and Leon Galvin were well in contention in the top 10 all weekend only for Howlett to suffer a puncture at the third stage on Sunday which scuppered his chances. Moore and Galvin held on and finished in the top 10.

Frank Kinsella and Emmet Cleary ran the event under the banned of Rally for Hope following the death of Emmet’s wife two weeks after last year’s rally, and raised significant funds for the Hope Centre as well as finishing second in their class.
