1 FESTIVAL FIREWORKS DISPLAY: All eyes will be on the skies over Wexford quayfront on Sunday next, November 5 at 8 pm for the annual Wexford Festival Opera fireworks display which was postponed from the opening night due to a bad weather warning by Met Eireann. The spectacula­r pyrotechni­c show which is set to classical music, draws thousands of delighted spectators from all over the county and further afield every year. However, this year visitors are reminded that access to the actual quayfront will be limited to the 5,000 people who have obtained free tickets issued by Wexford Festival to control numbers after a licensing difficulty arose. Other areas of the quays, including the public roadway and adjoining locations will be open to the general public without a ticket although people are advised not to park on the quays during the re-scheduled show. Traffic restrictio­ns will be in place on Wexford bridge, the quays and approachin­g streets. People are asked to abide by the directions of the gardai and security personnel.

2 COSMIC REBELS CON: A celebratio­n of everything geeky will take place at The Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorth­y this Saturday and Sunday as the Cosmic Rebels Con gets into full swing.

The weekend includes a series of fascinatin­g talks with comic book artists and authors, retro gaming, a cosplay competitio­n that will welcome all manner of fantastic costumes, vendors selling all kinds of collectibl­es, comic books and merchandis­e and much more! Members of the official Star Wars 501st Legion Ireland will be storming the hotel on the Saturday and Predators will also be patrolling on the Sunday for the screening of a new movie. 3 THE WOMAN IS PRESENT: WOMEN’S STORIES OF WWII. This creative reimaginin­g of moments from the lives of women during WWII recalls stories of bravery, sacrifice and love amidst the horrir of war as women stood up against Fascism and totalitari­anism and refused to accept oppression. The performanc­e which takes place on Wednesday, November 1, in Wexford Arts Centre at 8 p.m. will be followed by a post-show discussion with the artists and invited guest speakers exploring powerful women’s stories in history and themes of gender equality and peace.The

4 THIS LITTLE PIGGY: ‘This Little Piggy’ will take place on Friday, November 3, at 2 p.m., in the Wexford Arts Centre. It is a new interdisci­plinary play produced by Octupus Theatre Company and is for children aged six and up. It features both live action and puppetry, with puppets made by Wexford based Caoimhe Dunn. It is a story of overcoming fears and exploring the unknown. 5 ACHILLES IN ACHILL: Maura Flannery is delighted to present a new original play at The Athenaeum in Enniscorth­y this Friday and Saturday night. Based on a true story, it tells the tale of a crew of Greek sailors rescued by Achill locals who used ropes to pull them up a cliff. With all music composed by Maura and a wonderful cast, it promises to be a great show. There will be a wine reception at 7.30 p.m. each night with the show kicking off at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at €15/€12 from the Athenaeum or by calling 0877723329.

6 TWO GREAT PLAYS: New Ross Drama Workshop will be presenting an evening of One Act Plays on Wednesday, November 1, in Campile Parish Hall and om Thursday, November 2, in St. Michael’s Theatre, New Ross at 8 p.m. on both evenings. ‘Losers’ by Brian Friel and ‘The Tinkers Wedding’ by John Millington Synge will be performed. In their usual autumn format the group have chosen a variety of plays which will definitely match all tastes. Tickets for each performanc­e are €10 and will be available on the door on both nights and if you wish to book you can do so on the theatre box office number 051 421255.

7 VARIETY NIGHT: A great evening of entertainm­ent is promised this Friday, November 3, at 8 p.m. in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey. A variety night has been organised to raise funds for the dressing rooms which are currently under constructi­on at Craanford Community Complex. It is gearing up to be a great evening of music, song and dance. The line-up includes performanc­es by the Craanford adult choir, John Furlong, Matt Murphy, Shelley Atkins and Friends, children from Craanford National School, members of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Tuaisceart Loch Garman and lots more. All tickets are priced at €10 and are available by contacting 087 2334776.
