New Ross Standard - - NEWS -

TWO women who attempted to leave TK Maxx in Wexford with a suitcase full of clothes taken from the store were brought straight to the District Court to face shoplifting charges.

Before the court was 24-yearold Irina Marin with an address at 23 Havelock Road in Birmingham, England along with her distant cousin, a juvenile.

The defendants were produced just as Judge John Cheatle was concluding the sitting.

They had the assistance of a Romanian interpreter as Garda Mark Power gave evidence.

He told how the defendants were arrested after being intercepted by staff at TK Maxx after they left the shop without paying for €380 worth of goods.

Most of the stolen clothes had been damaged as security tags had been roughly removed.

Some €37 worth of goods lifted from Claires Accessories also came to light after the pair were detained.

Solicitor Ed King was assigned to the matter under the free legal aid scheme.

He passed on their offer to return immediately to Romania.

The judge fined Ms Marin €400 and bound her 17-year-old accomplice to the peace for six months.

No previous convictions were on the record.
