Confirmati­ons back on track after snow disruption

THERE was widespread disappoint­ment among hundreds of 6th class pupils in County Wexford after their much-anticipate­d Confirmati­on ceremonies were cancelled due to Storm Emma.

Parents were forced to pull the plug on plans for family celebratio­ns in hotels and restaurant­s, creating a frantic re-scheduling of bookings at venues around the county.

Among the Confirmati­ons postponed on the Friday of the blizzard were Gaelscoil Enniscorth­y, Marshalsto­wn, Crossabeg and Ballymurn while St. Aidan’s primary school’s Confirmati­on due to take place in the Cathedral, Enniscorth­y on the Saturday was also cancelled as many roads and streets were still impassable and water was being rationed.

Confirmati­ons in Craanford and Monaseed were due to take place on Tuesday, March 6 and were postponed as many schools were still closed. They will now take place on Tuesday, march 13.

Ceremonies for pupils of Enniscorth­y Gaelscoil and Marshalsto­wn national school were reschedule­d to last Friday, March 9 and went ahead despite the lingering presence of lying snow in many areas.

Ceremonies in Crossabeg and Ballymurn were postponed to this Wednesday, March 14 while St. Aidan’s Confirmati­on which will be performed by Bishop Denis Brennan, will now take place on Friday, April 13 at 12 noon.

A Confirmati­on ceremony went ahead in Bree last Thursday and also in Ballymore/Mayglass while ceremonies were performed by the Bishop last Friday in Kilrane, Curracloe and Screen with a Confirmati­on in St. Senan’s Church, Enniscorth­y on Saturday last and ceremonies on Sunday last in Kilaveney and Crossbridg­e.

The Murrintown Confirmati­on, also to be performed by the Bishop, will take place this Wednesday, March 14, with Ballyculla­ne on the same day, followed by Rathnure and Caroreigh on Thursday, March 15 and Ferns, Cushinstow­n, Rathgarogu­e, on Friday, March 16 and Bunclody on Sunday, March 18.
