Man punched taxi driver

-

A 40-YEAR-OLD man who punched a taxi driver causing an eye injury brought €2,000 compensation to the District Court.

Robert Foley of 191 Cluain Dara, Clonard, threw the punch after he and another person were picked up by Nicky Walsh on the night of July 31, 2016.

The assault occurred after a row arose over the difficulty the driver had finding his customers at Bugler Doyle’s.

The driver was in court to tell Judge Gerard Haughton he had since been very nervous about having people who had drink taken in the car behind him.

Walsh added that he had to give up his shooting pastime since suffering the injury and that he expects to see ‘shadows’ or floaters for the rest of his life.

Defending solicitor Lana Doherty said that her client works in construction, residing with his partner and ten-year-old child.

Judge Haughton dealt with the matter with a fine of €500 once the compensation is paid over to the injured party.
