COURTOWN LADIES

Tuesday, June 26, brought our ‘Pink & Blue’ day. This day is synonymous with fun in the club. Bronagh Stafford arrived early on Tuesday morning to decorate the clubhouse and course with all things pink and blue.

There was a very festive atmosphere around the club. The course was a tad fiery but that did not deter our ladies and some exceedingl­y good scores were recorded.

The competitio­n was sponsored by Halford Hair Studios and as usual the prize table was fantastic. Maeve Halford attended the presentati­on on Tuesday and told us that Halford’s have been sponsoring the ladies for 25 years.

Courtown ladies really appreciate this and the continued support. She went on to present the much-envied prizes to the lucky winners.

Saturday, June 30, brought us our first major of the summer - lady President Pat Kinsella’s prize. It was a fantastic day for golf, with a little breeze doing just enough to keep the sweltering temperatur­es at bay. The lady President wished everybody well as she saw off from the first tee.

The lady President presented her prize in a packed clubhouse on Saturday evening. She told the assembled guests and members that it had been a great day and she was delighted to be a part of it. Congratula­tions to all the winners.

DONOHOE’S SOCIETY

Donohoe’s Society played Carriglead­e on Sunday with only 16 players in total.

Results: 1, Lar Morrissey, 34 points; 2, ‘Prof’ Nolan, 32 points; 3, ‘Cockney’ Murphy, 31 points.

The birdie money was won by Sam Farnan. ‘Cockney’ Murphy won the June player of the month, and the yellow ball winning team comprised Trevor Murphy, Charlie Kearney and Jim Breen.

The South Leinster men’s team had a very good 4/3 away win against Callan. While we lost two matches at home, we won three away with the last and deciding match won on the 19th. We are now in the quarter-final.

The side is managed by Seán Furlong and James O’Brien. The team was Richie Aylward, Eddie Kent, Harry Reinhardt, Noel Devine, Peter Goggin, Jimmy Ryan and John Hartley.

PAULINE’S SOCIETY

Coollattin golf course in the garden of Ireland was our most recent venture. A beautiful course and well maintained, it proved to be a tough challenge to all concerned.

Former captain Alan Nixon proved to have the measure of the course by leading the field into first place. Robert Ryan followed him closely behind in second place.

Third place went to Michael Jordan. Shane Monahan won the visitor’s prize and also managed to take the two very difficult nearest the pin prizes. Congratula­tions to all concerned.

Williamsto­wn golf course will be the venue for our next outing on Saturday, July 14, with a tee-off time of 11 a.m. Those intending to travel should have their names posted on the noticeboar­d in Pauline’s Bar before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, to facilitate a draw to be made for groups.

Members and visitors who are travelling should make every effort to arrive at the course no later than 10.30 a.m.
