Mart apologises for petrol shortage

July 1979

-

County Wexford Marts have become the latest petrol retailers to apologise to customers for lack of fuel at the pumps due to the ongoing oil crisis caused by the political situation in Iran.

A statement from Mr. James Codd, Chairman of Co. Wexford Marts, apologies to the many customers of the Mart Service Station at Dublin Road, Enniscorthy, ‘for our inability to supply their fuel needs during the present supply situation’.

‘Deliveries from Burmah, who purchase their oil from Iran, have been badly hit, and as a result they have only been able to supply us with 4,400 gallons of petrol and no diesel oil at all for the coming two months,’ the statement says.

‘Obviously, 2,200 gallons per month is completely inadequate to cater for present demand. We regret the inconvenience to our customers, but assure them it is completely beyond our control, ‘ it concludes.

Mr. Codd signs the letter on behalf of the Mart’s Board of Directors.
