STUDENT ARTISTS SHARE LIMELIGHT

- COMPILED BY MARIA PEPPER

THE GEORDIE Gallery at Yola Farm in Tagoat is hosting an exhibition by eight pupils from the local national school who decided to present their art work as an anonymous collective rather than putting their individual names to it.

The exhibition of photography, drawings and paintings is entitled Nexson and features the work of fourth, fifth and sixth class pupils, Summer Browne Goldsmith, David Monahan, Jodie Cash, Lilli Mai Harrison, Aaron Davy, Ella Mannix, Louie Phillips and Lily May Doheny. It will continue until the end of July.

The group worked with Yola Farm artist-in-residence Andi McGarry who opened the gallery recently as a resource for community art. He nurtered the talents of the young artists who showed a particular flair for photography.

‘ There are a couple of very good photographers in the group’, said project co-ordinating teacher Paul O’Keeffe, one of the volunteers behind Yola Farm.

‘When we started talking about it, the group decided on the idea of a collective with no gender or names on the work’, he said. ‘ They put about 10 names up on the board and came up with the title Nexson.’
