Fri­day dead­line for Busi­ness and Com­mu­nity Awards nom­i­na­tions

THE dead­line for nom­i­na­tions for the New Ross & District Busi­ness & Com­mu­nity Awards is this Fri­day at 5:30 p.m.

The awards are now in their eleventh year and are tak­ing place on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 20, in the Bran­don House Ho­tel. Or­gan­ised by New Ross & District Cham­ber of Com­merce each year to recog­nise the ded­i­ca­tion of lo­cal busi­ness­peo­ple and com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions who con­tin­u­ally pro­vide qual­ity prod­ucts and ser­vices in the New Ross area, the main awards are New Ross & District Per­son of the Year spon­sored by the New Ross Stan­dard and Em­ployee of the Year.

Ap­pli­ca­tions and nom­i­na­tions from all vol­un­tary, ed­u­ca­tion and busi­ness sec­tors are wel­come.

The or­gan­is­ers are also call­ing on the pub­lic to hon­our those in­di­vid­u­als that have made a real dif­fer­ence and valu­able con­tri­bu­tion to so­ci­ety, through their com­mu­nity in­volve­ment, char­i­ta­ble work, aca­demic or sport­ing con­tri­bu­tions, busi­ness suc­cess or acts of brav­ery.

New Ross & District Cham­ber of Com­merce Pres­i­dent Jonathan Keenan said: ‘As a com­mu­nity, we should recog­nise and call out peo­ple who have made a real dif­fer­ence to the lives of oth­ers through their vol­un­teerism, ded­i­ca­tion and will­ing­ness to give of their own time for the bet­ter­ment of oth­ers. New Ross has many such peo­ple so we are ask­ing that peo­ple take the time to look and nom­i­nate those who they be­lieve de­serve the ac­co­lade.’

The awards are free to en­ter and you can ap­ply on­line. To en­ter com­plete an of­fi­cial ap­pli­ca­tion nom­i­na­tion form for each of your cho­sen cat­e­gories and re­turn with sup­port­ing doc­u­men­ta­tion to the New Ross and District Cham­ber of­fice.

Ap­pli­ca­tions can be made on­line, by post or in per­son.

Win­ners will re­ceive a spe­cially hand crafted crys­tal tro­phy made by world renowned glass sculp­tor Fred Cur­tis.

The award cat­e­gories are:

Best New Start-Up Award – This award is open to all new busi­nesses owned and run in the New Ross and district area. Ap­pli­cants should be trad­ing for be­tween six and 24 months. The win­ner will have a clear vi­sion for the fu­ture of their busi­ness while also demon­strat­ing suc­cess to date.

Best in Re­tail Ex­pe­ri­ence Award – This award is open to all re­tail busi­nesses in the New Ross and district in­clud­ing fore­court re­tail, post of­fice, re­tail, take-aways, florist, fresh pro­duce, cloth­ing, con­ve­nience store, su­per­mar­ket, fran­chise and many more that can demon­strate ex­cel­lence in un­der­stand­ing their cus­tomer’s needs and de­liver a su­pe­rior ser­vice. As part of the judg­ing process a Cham­ber mys­tery shop­per will as­sess all el­e­ments of your op­er­a­tion in­clud­ing shop front, house­keep­ing, first im­pres­sions, staff pre­sen­ta­tion, prod­uct knowl­edge, sales tech­nique and over­all cus­tomer care stan­dards.

Best in Tourism Award - This award is open to all tourism re­lated busi­nesses in the New Ross and District in­clud­ing ac­com­mo­da­tion providers, pubs, cafés and restau­rants, at­trac­tions and ac­tiv­i­ties that can demon­strate ex­cel­lence in prod­uct qual­ity and cus­tomer sat­is­fac­tion. The win­ner will have made sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions to de­vel­op­ing, mar­ket­ing, sell­ing and de­liv­er­ing im­proved vis­i­tor ex­pe­ri­ences in Ire­land. The Mys­tery Shop­per will as­sess all el­e­ments of your op­er­a­tion in­clud­ing first im­pres­sions, house­keep­ing, staff pre­sen­ta­tion, prod­uct knowl­edge, area knowl­edge, sales tech­nique and over­all cus­tomer care stan­dards.

Best in Health, Fit­ness & Well­be­ing Award – This award aims to ac­knowl­edge all those in­volved in pro­mot­ing and in­spir­ing healthy, ac­tive in­di­vid­u­als and com­mu­ni­ties across New Ross and district. It is open to all gyms, train­ers, phys­ios, di­eti­cians, health and fit­ness pro­fes­sion­als and fa­cil­i­ties, well­be­ing ex­perts and or­gan­i­sa­tions that pro-ac­tively seek to pro­vide support and re­sources to help clients and mem­bers lead happy, healthy ful­filled lives.

Ap­pli­cants should be able to demon­strate strong lead­er­ship, ex­cel­lence in prac­tice in­clud­ing client com­mu­ni­ca­tion, ser­vice and care, train­ing and de­vel­op­ment, in­no­va­tion and growth. The win­ner will have made a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to this grow­ing in­dus­try by de­liv­er­ing strate­gies and ini­tia­tives with clear, mea­sur­able re­sults.

Busi­ness Wo­man of the Year Award – This award aims to cham­pion and cel­e­brate fe­male busi­ness lead­ers in our town and district. It is open to all women in busi­ness in­clud­ing own­ers and/or man­agers from or­gan­i­sa­tions of all sizes and across all sec­tors. The win­ner will be able to demon­strate drive, am­bi­tion, lead­er­ship and ex­cel­lence in busi­ness prac­tice. She will have achieved great re­sults in her own or her em­ployer’s busi­ness, cap­i­talised on op­por­tu­ni­ties by re­spond­ing pos­i­tively to mar­ket needs and iden­ti­fy­ing fur­ther op­por­tu­ni­ties for growth en­sur­ing her/em­ploy­ers busi­ness re­mains com­pet­i­tive and sus­tain­able. An in­spir­ing role model, she will have taken re­spon­si­bil­ity for her own per­sonal skills de­vel­op­ment through in­dus­try led and ac­cred­ited train­ing, men­tor­ing, networking and col­lab­o­ra­tion.

Com­mu­nity & So­cial En­ter­prise Award - This award is open to all not-for-profit com­mu­nity and vol­un­tary groups, com­mu­nity or support ser­vices, so­ci­eties, fes­ti­vals and event or­gan­is­ers, ed­u­ca­tional fa­cil­i­ties in the New Ross and district area that can demon­strate their ef­forts and abil­ity to pri­ori­tise peo­ple and com­mu­nity, ahead of pri­vate or per­sonal gain. Ap­pli­cants will be or­gan­i­sa­tions who have made a sig­nif­i­cant and sus­tained con­tri­bu­tion to their com­mu­nity. Of­ten work­ing be­hind the scenes, th­ese or­gan­i­sa­tions pro­vide their time and ef­forts to help their fel­low cit­i­zens.

Em­ployee of the Year Award – This award is open to New Ross and District em­ploy­ers and work col­leagues to nom­i­nate their fel­low em­ployee or team mem­ber who has made a pos­i­tive or unique dif­fer­ence to the busi­ness over the past year. This award will recog­nise that in­di­vid­ual, with as­sess­ment be­ing based on var­i­ous cri­te­ria along with a re­port from a man­ager or su­per­vi­sor.

New Ross & District Per­son of the Year Award – This cat­e­gory is for the peo­ple of the district to hon­our an in­di­vid­ual for their out­stand­ing achieve­ments and con­tri­bu­tions made to life in their com­mu­nity. Nom­i­na­tions from all vol­un­tary, ed­u­ca­tion and busi­ness sec­tors are wel­come.

Pro­fes­sional Ser­vices Award – This award is open to all pro­fes­sional ser­vices com­pa­nies in the New Ross and district in­clud­ing ac­coun­tants, solic­i­tors, fi­nan­cial ser­vices, in­sur­ance bro­kers, hair­dressers and beau­ti­cians. Ap­pli­cants should be able to demon­strate re­spon­si­ble and sus­tain­able busi­ness prac­tices that cre­ate last­ing value to­gether with sig­nif­i­cant in­vest­ment in staff learn­ing and per­sonal de­vel­op­ment. The win­ner will have a clear set of val­ues and goals and will de­tail past achieve­ments and plans for fu­ture growth and de­vel­op­ment.

Small Busi­ness of the Year Award – This award is open to all busi­nesses in the New Ross and district that em­ploy up to ten peo­ple and can demon­strate ex­cel­lence in busi­ness prac­tice, in­clud­ing ex­cel­lence in prod­uct and/or ser­vice in­no­va­tion, abil­ity to re­spond pos­i­tively to mar­ket needs and trends, on­go­ing skills de­vel­op­ment, ex­cel­lence in mar­ket­ing and sales de­vel­op­ment and over­all busi­ness per­for­mance and suc­cess.

So­cial Me­dia Award – This award is open to all busi­nesses op­er­at­ing in the New Ross and district who can demon­strate in­no­va­tion and cre­ativ­ity in their con­tent dis­tri­bu­tion through their so­cial me­dia chan­nels, build­ing brand aware­ness, while hav­ing cus­tomer en­gage­ment and support and at the heart of their in­ter­ac­tion.

Sports Club of the Year Award – This award is open to all sport­ing clubs in the New Ross and district that can demon­strate ex­cel­lence in the de­liv­ery of sports train­ing and prac­tice, ex­cel­lent or­gan­i­sa­tional struc­ture and man­age­ment and make a pos­i­tive and no­tice­able im­pact in the New Ross and district area.

Over­all Busi­ness of the Year Award - The win­ner of this cat­e­gory will be cho­sen from both the win­ners and run­ners up from the fol­low­ing cat­e­gories: Best in Tourism Award, Pro­fes­sional Ser­vices Award and Small Busi­ness of the Year Award.
