Friday deadline for Business and Community Awards nominations
THE deadline for nominations for the New Ross & District Business & Community Awards is this Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The awards are now in their eleventh year and are taking place on Saturday, October 20, in the Brandon House Hotel. Organised by New Ross & District Chamber of Commerce each year to recognise the dedication of local businesspeople and community organisations who continually provide quality products and services in the New Ross area, the main awards are New Ross & District Person of the Year sponsored by the New Ross Standard and Employee of the Year.
Applications and nominations from all voluntary, education and business sectors are welcome.
The organisers are also calling on the public to honour those individuals that have made a real difference and valuable contribution to society, through their community involvement, charitable work, academic or sporting contributions, business success or acts of bravery.
New Ross & District Chamber of Commerce President Jonathan Keenan said: ‘As a community, we should recognise and call out people who have made a real difference to the lives of others through their volunteerism, dedication and willingness to give of their own time for the betterment of others. New Ross has many such people so we are asking that people take the time to look and nominate those who they believe deserve the accolade.’
The awards are free to enter and you can apply online. To enter complete an official application nomination form for each of your chosen categories and return with supporting documentation to the New Ross and District Chamber office.
Applications can be made online, by post or in person.
Businesses and organisations may also choose to self-nominate and are encouraged to put forward internal teams and departments for consideration. Full details can be found at www. newrosschamber.ie or by phoning the Chamber office on 051 425077.
Winners will receive a specially hand crafted crystal trophy made by world renowned glass sculptor Fred Curtis.
The award categories are:
Best New Start-Up Award – This award is open to all new businesses owned and run in the New Ross and district area. Applicants should be trading for between six and 24 months. The winner will have a clear vision for the future of their business while also demonstrating success to date.
Best in Retail Experience Award – This award is open to all retail businesses in the New Ross and district including forecourt retail, post office, retail, take-aways, florist, fresh produce, clothing, convenience store, supermarket, franchise and many more that can demonstrate excellence in understanding their customer’s needs and deliver a superior service. As part of the judging process a Chamber mystery shopper will assess all elements of your operation including shop front, housekeeping, first impressions, staff presentation, product knowledge, sales technique and overall customer care standards.
Best in Tourism Award - This award is open to all tourism related businesses in the New Ross and District including accommodation providers, pubs, cafés and restaurants, attractions and activities that can demonstrate excellence in product quality and customer satisfaction. The winner will have made significant contributions to developing, marketing, selling and delivering improved visitor experiences in Ireland. The Mystery Shopper will assess all elements of your operation including first impressions, housekeeping, staff presentation, product knowledge, area knowledge, sales technique and overall customer care standards.
Best in Health, Fitness & Wellbeing Award – This award aims to acknowledge all those involved in promoting and inspiring healthy, active individuals and communities across New Ross and district. It is open to all gyms, trainers, physios, dieticians, health and fitness professionals and facilities, wellbeing experts and organisations that pro-actively seek to provide support and resources to help clients and members lead happy, healthy fulfilled lives.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate strong leadership, excellence in practice including client communication, service and care, training and development, innovation and growth. The winner will have made a significant contribution to this growing industry by delivering strategies and initiatives with clear, measurable results.
Business Woman of the Year Award – This award aims to champion and celebrate female business leaders in our town and district. It is open to all women in business including owners and/or managers from organisations of all sizes and across all sectors. The winner will be able to demonstrate drive, ambition, leadership and excellence in business practice. She will have achieved great results in her own or her employer’s business, capitalised on opportunities by responding positively to market needs and identifying further opportunities for growth ensuring her/employers business remains competitive and sustainable. An inspiring role model, she will have taken responsibility for her own personal skills development through industry led and accredited training, mentoring, networking and collaboration.
Community & Social Enterprise Award - This award is open to all not-for-profit community and voluntary groups, community or support services, societies, festivals and event organisers, educational facilities in the New Ross and district area that can demonstrate their efforts and ability to prioritise people and community, ahead of private or personal gain. Applicants will be organisations who have made a significant and sustained contribution to their community. Often working behind the scenes, these organisations provide their time and efforts to help their fellow citizens.
Employee of the Year Award – This award is open to New Ross and District employers and work colleagues to nominate their fellow employee or team member who has made a positive or unique difference to the business over the past year. This award will recognise that individual, with assessment being based on various criteria along with a report from a manager or supervisor.
New Ross & District Person of the Year Award – This category is for the people of the district to honour an individual for their outstanding achievements and contributions made to life in their community. Nominations from all voluntary, education and business sectors are welcome.
Professional Services Award – This award is open to all professional services companies in the New Ross and district including accountants, solicitors, financial services, insurance brokers, hairdressers and beauticians. Applicants should be able to demonstrate responsible and sustainable business practices that create lasting value together with significant investment in staff learning and personal development. The winner will have a clear set of values and goals and will detail past achievements and plans for future growth and development.
Small Business of the Year Award – This award is open to all businesses in the New Ross and district that employ up to ten people and can demonstrate excellence in business practice, including excellence in product and/or service innovation, ability to respond positively to market needs and trends, ongoing skills development, excellence in marketing and sales development and overall business performance and success.
Social Media Award – This award is open to all businesses operating in the New Ross and district who can demonstrate innovation and creativity in their content distribution through their social media channels, building brand awareness, while having customer engagement and support and at the heart of their interaction.
Sports Club of the Year Award – This award is open to all sporting clubs in the New Ross and district that can demonstrate excellence in the delivery of sports training and practice, excellent organisational structure and management and make a positive and noticeable impact in the New Ross and district area.
Overall Business of the Year Award - The winner of this category will be chosen from both the winners and runners up from the following categories: Best in Tourism Award, Professional Services Award and Small Business of the Year Award.
