Hi-tech FabLab on way to Ross
A FabLab is to open in New Ross.
Funding has been approved for a fab lab (fabrication laboratory) – which is a small-scale workshop offering (personal) digital fabrication.
The lab is typically equipped with an array of flexible computer-controlled tools that cover several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make ‘almost anything’.
The fab lab is part of a €150,000 funding boost for the county from the Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. The four municipal areas have agreed and allocated 30 per cent (€45,019) to small projects, which amount to €11,252 per district. Cllr Michael Sheehan said: ‘ These small scale projects will make a real improvement on the ground for local committees and groups in the areas. In terms of disadvantage, lifestyle and making Wexford a STEM county, this allocation will aid in reversing the trends of disadvantage and investment in our people and our places.’
